After installing Git, starting Rstudio creates an unending loop of opening new sessions

Error Information: No error returned

Description of issue - When starting Rstudio, the software starts opening a new session and then starts opening other new sessions simultaneously and does this repeatededly impurpetuity. None of the sessions seem to succeed in finishing the loading process.

This happens when opening Rstudio in a manner of ways including from the start menu, from an R script file or from an R project. Regular R works fine.

The problem began after downloading git and github desktop but before cloning a repo. A test repo was created on GithHub and a project was started within that repo. In doing so, there was supposed to be one window that opened up accoriding to this Coursera video on R and github. That is when the endless opening of other sessions began and has continued on the windows computer since despite uninstalling and reinstalling R, Rstudio, Git and Github desktop.

Attempted steps taken to fix -
uninstalled git, Rstudio, and R and reinstalled each. Deleted the test repo and the associated project both locally and on github. com.

System Information:

  • RStudio Edition: Desktop
  • RStudio Version: 1.2.5033
  • OS Version: Windows 10
  • R Version: 3.6.0
  • Output your diagnostics report (if possible): Nothing output, can't get to an Rstudio command line.
