Mysterious slowness issues can be very frustrating, and unfortunately also can be system-specific and difficult to debug 
. I’m afraid I don’t know what might be wrong, but here are a few things to try based on past discussions here and elsewhere:
- Is the
.gitfolder still hidden? (RStudio suddenly slow processing - #6 by kevinushey) - Has the
.gitfolder gotten very large? (RStudio lagging when in a .git controlled project - #3 by jdlong) - Are any network drives involved? (RStudio Desktop slow and laggy when project is on a network drive)
- Could security/anti-virus software be involved? (Rstudio slow on git projects (w/ Windows + enterprise security software) · Issue #4837 · rstudio/rstudio · GitHub)
- Could a graphics driver somehow be involved
