About the role and team
With thousands of active lots every day, hundreds of thousands of daily bids, millions of users, and billions of events, the Catawiki platform generates vast amounts of data every day. All this data is being collected and stored, and used extensively by our team of 18 data scientists and engineers that want to build a better company by using data in a smart way. At Catawiki, we believe in using data for making decisions, and the Data Science & Analytics team plays an important role in that.
We’re looking for a Senior Data Analyst / Senior Data Scientist Insights to become the Data Business Partner of our Categories (Luxury Goods, Art, Interiors, and Collectables), in close collaboration with their dedicated Finance Business Partners.
Your role will be to analyse current business trends and to derive actionable insights in order to support our categories in shifting their commercial strategy when and where needed (supply, demand, curation etc).
You will be a trusted business partner for them, who is actively participating in the decision-making, and regularly identifying new business opportunities.
What you’ll do
- You will be combining data points from different data sources in order to find trends and opportunities in the data and make recommendations for improvements to the business strategy
- You will help define key metrics that drive the performance of categories, and make these accessible to stakeholders through dashboards and reports.
- You will work closely with both our Finance Business Partners and the General Managers of our four clusters (Luxury Goods, Art, Interiors, and Collectables), becoming a trusted partner for them in their strategic decisions.
- You will be part of the Data Science Insights team, and help us enrich and maintain our data warehouse as well as develop data accessibility across the entire company.
- You will share your expertise with the rest of the Data team, mentoring other team members to turn data into insights and proactively contributing to introducing new techniques and ways of working within the team.
Who you are
- An experienced Data Scientist / Business Analyst with a strong quantitative background and 5+ years of relevant experience
- Proven ability to extract meaning from big datasets with little engineering support: you’re a SQL Ninja. You also know your way around when it comes to spreadsheets and data visualisation tools (Google Data Studio, Tableau, Looker etc). Ideally you have experience with Python or R.
- Commercially-minded : what excites you about data is to create concrete commercial opportunities and foster change in the company.
- You are autonomous in assessing precisely what to investigate and how : you know how to uncover the real problem behind the questions you receive from various stakeholders, how to connect the dots when needed, and how to provide actionable conclusions from your insights.
- Strong communication skills and being able to work at a fast pace with business owners and VP-level management.
- Proven stakeholder management experience : you are comfortable with managing multiple’s stakeholders expectations both in terms of timing and outcome. You know why, when and how to challenge them in an effective manner. Prioritisation is always on your mind. You do this not only for your own work, but also as much as possible for any project or initiative you are involved in.
- An entrepreneurial mindset that enables you to get things done, also if that requires actions outside your own area or comfort zone.
What we offer
This is your chance to join our mission to fulfil people’s passions, as part of a young and dynamic organisation. You'll be part of an enthusiastic, highly-motivated team of 750+ Catawikians. Additionally, you can expect:
- A fast and sustainably growing tech company

Our offices and new way of working
We’ve embraced an activity-based way of working, meaning our team can choose how they split their work week between home and the office, in line with our remote framework and guidelines. In locations where we have physical offices, most employees enjoy two days at the office to connect and collaborate with each other.
Our experts and sales staff in local markets work 100% remotely – in most cases from home. Some key positions are hired remotely, while we also offer relocation services for colleagues needing to be closer to the office.
