Concerns about installing Python libraries in Linux server running RStudio

Hello:
I have been running Python code on my Windows laptop via the RStudio IDE and the reticulate package. I've installed libraries such as scikit-learn that are of interest to me (Machine Learning in Python).

As I now need more compute power, I asked our IT department for a user in the Linux server in which RStudio is installed. To my surprise, I was told that it is an R server intended for the exclusive use of R libraries, and that no Python elements or libraries should be installed as such deviations seem inadequate and incorrect.

I'm not an IT person so I don't know whether there are technical merits to these concerns. I'd appreciate feedback on whether we should be concerned or not. Thank you!
