Data Doesn't Show in Environment

I'm wondering why ".data" doesn't show in my environment, but can be accessed like when I use the glimpse function.

library(dplyr)
#>
#> Attaching package: 'dplyr'

.data <- storms
sortvars <- c("year", "status", "category")
ls()
#> [1] "sortvars"

The all.names parameter of ls() is set to FALSE by default.

all.names
a logical value. If TRUE, all object names are returned. If FALSE, names which begin with a . are omitted.
