Directory browsing/creation extremely slow

Several aspects of directory browsing/creation take between 10 and 20 seconds on my computer (Debian Sid; Rstudio 1.1.383). Specifically:

  1. New Project > New Directory > New Project > Browse > clicking on any other directory than the one initially shown takes roughly 10 seconds to update, and is unresponsive in the meantime.

  2. Anywhere in the file choose (e.g., Save As) > Create Folder takes roughly 20 seconds to allow input, and is unresponsive in the meantime.

Curiously, browsing directories under Save As does not hang, unlike in New Project; but Create Folder does hang under New Project.

Has anyone had this problem? Know how to address it? It's literally the first thing I would like to demonstrate in class; hanging for 20 seconds is not so great.

Do you see the same issue in the latest release of RStudio (v1.1.442)? If so, what about the latest daily builds (https://dailies.rstudio.com)?
