don't know my passphrase or password to link github to Rstudio

I am trying to set up link my RStudio with GitHub
in options > Git/SVN > i click create RSA key. However, i don't know what my passphrase or password is or should be.

Has anyone got stuck on this aswell?

System Information:

  • RStudio Edition: (Desktop or Server)
  • RStudio Version:
  • OS Version: 10:11:6
  • R Version: 1.1.463

You are asked to create a password, Are you sure you want us to tell you what your password will be? I really don't think so.

In most cases this step is not necessary, if you are just starting with this feature, I would recommend you to leave it alone.

Have you seen https://happygitwithr.com/? Among other things, it walks you through all the steps of connecting RStudio with GitHub for the first time, and your various authentication options. Highly recommended!

I'm not following you, the passphrase is optional and even if you want to use it, is defined by you. What error message do you get when you try to create the key leaving both text boxes empty?

Sorry i just realise how to get around the situation. I was definitely overthinking the whole process :sweat_smile:
