Error Starting R - The R session process exited with code 1 (MAC)

Hello,

RStudio closed unexpectedly and when opened, an "Error Starting R" appeared and it would not open. I have tried reinstalling R (4.0.4 - I can't figure out how to install previous versions), Rstudio (versions 1.3, 1.4 and daily RStudio 1.4.1649, "Juliet Rose") as suggested in troubleshooting and other community posts. I have tried deleting the hidden files from terminal as suggested in the Rstudio support:

defaults delete com.rstudio.desktop

Nothing works.

With Rstudio 1.4.0 and older the error message is "The R session process exited with code 1", otherwise there is no error.

I am working with MacOS Catalina version 10.15.6

Can anyone help please?
