"Failed - Network error" downloading R for Mac OS X

Downloading R-3.6.3.nn.pkg from The Comprehensive R Archive Network

Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6 (16G2136)
Tried from Chrome and Safari into different folders.
Tried house wifi and hotspotting from my phone to use a different internet source.

Each time it says it will take 17 hours... 25 hours.... 3 days... to download. Then eventually comes up "Failed - Network Error".

Any help appreciated. I'm failing at the first hurdle.

Have you tried a different mirror? This link from the CRAN website has the package for download: https://cran.r-project.org/bin/macosx/el-capitan/base/
