files come back as non writable, packages rejected

ng in install.packages(lib = .libPaths()[1L], dependencies = NA, type = type) :
'lib = "D:/Program Files/R/R-4.1.0/library"' is not writable

D:/Program Files/R/R-4.1.0/library is supposedly a path on your computer. Is it writable for you in general, outside of the R application ?

Dear Nick: It seems so obvious but the work involved is tedious; I wish there were an easier way but your remarks clarified the issue enough and I was able to resolve this issue. Thanks a million!
