From numeric to date

I have an Excel sheet with a columndate. In Excel the date 27.02.2014 is the same as 41697. When I import to R the column gives me the number 41697, how can i convert this number back to the date?

sapply(data1, class);
Issue.Date
"numeric"

Strange to me because of the odd origin date it implies


lubridate::as_date(41697,origin=ymd("1899-12-30"))
[1] "2014-02-27"
