(Help!) R Studio not saving/cannot write script/cannot close [GPU Diagnostics Report]

I was using RStudio when out of nowhere, it stopped functioning properly
i.e. I tried to save my files but couldn't save it (the blue save icon stays blue) and I can't even close R without ending the task in task manager.

I also can't seem to open a new file (I would click "New File" but nothing happens)

I'm using the latest version of R
R version 3.6.1 (2019-07-05) -- "Action of the Toes"

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both R, R commander, and shutting down and restarting my computer, but nothing seems to work!

Usually, this implies that the R session is stuck executing some code in the background.

One thing you could try: when the hang occurs, try typing Ctrl + `. This will pop up an event log of some of the things RStudio is trying to execute behind the scenes. Would you be able to share a screenshot of what you see when the hang occurs?

Nothing comes up when i type ctrl `.
I've attached a gif that shows the gist of the issues I'm facing with R Studio right now.

I also will get a popup stating that RStudio was unable to establish a connection, but the popup only appears a pretty long while after I try to close the file.

You might also try disabling R code diagnostics, in case the diagnostics engine is getting stuck somehow. In Tools -> Global Options... -> Code -> Diagnostics, try unchecking Show diagnostics for R:

I still have difficulties opening a new file, but there's a difference now in that I can close the existing files and open a new file AFTER closing the existing files, but I can't type any script after opening the new file. Also, trying to close R Studio doesn't really work- it just shows "quitting r session" for the longest time, and starting it up again opens up the existing files that I had closed previously. I also still cannot run any script on the existing files.

Any chance you could try the trick with Ctrl + ` again? It should work as long as the R session is at least a bit responsive.

Sorry for the super late response! While I was waiting for your response after unchecking the Show Diagnostics for R box, I decided to try my luck and uninstall (and reinstall) both R and R Studio again. This time, after starting it back, R studio was back up and running again. I still don't know what the issue was, but thank you so much for your help!
