How to interpretate the "arrows" in an ordination plot

Hey there!

I am still working on my thesis and was wondering if my interpretation of the ordinationplot is right!

You should see my ordination plot below.
I am trying to show that some species have their habitat center on "new" areas and others on "old" areas.
The arrows represent the environmental variables sealing (100m) and pH - value.
If a species such as Medicago lupina is very close to the pH arrow, can I assume that Medicago is strongly correlated with the environmental variable pH? And the other way around - can I assume that if species are far away from an arrow, they do not correlate / correlate little?

Thank you for reading!
