please send help

What software are you having problems finding? Is it R, RStudio, or something else? I will assume it is RStudio.

Your 2017 MacBook Air will run up to macOS 12 (Monterey), which is the current version. It will not be compatible with macOS 13 (Ventura) when it is released later this month, but you do not need it for R or RStudio. If you are still running 10.12 (Sierra), the solution is to update to a newer OS. The latest version of RStudio Desktop (2022.07) requires at least macOS 10.15 (Catalina).

I strongly recommend installing R 4.2, which is the latest version. It only requires macOS 10.13 or higher.

FYI, the macOS versions since 2016:
10.12 ---- Sierra
10.13 ---- High Sierra
10.14 ---- Mojave
10.15 ---- Catalina
11 -------- Big Sur (also known as 10.16)
12 -------- Monterey
13 -------- Ventura (coming soon)
