Until recently, rstan was available to install as a binary. After the change to Ubuntu 20.04 for new projects, it will only install from source, which requires at least 4 gb of memory. Am I missing something?

Hello... I'm so sorry for the late reply. This question fell through the cracks.
rstan is a very big project (as you have noticed) so it takes time for the binaries to show up in our package index. It is available now.
