Some of my postings are shown as having a reply, but when I go to them, I do not see any replies. Is this because closing a topic increments the reply count?
I believe it does. When I click on the 'Unread' menu at the top I see a bunch of closed topics even when I had read the posts in the thread.

System actions like closing a topic are counted as a reply, yes.
