Is it possible to prevent RStudio from auto-formatting when copying and pasting the output from dput?

When copying a long output from dput function, RStudio automatically spread it out to hundreds of columns. Is it possible to prevent RStudio from doing that? Thank you!

RStudio doesn’t reformat the output of dput. (That is, if you ran this in R, you’d get the same output)

If you’re just looking to limit the amount of white space, one idea is that you might save the dput output to a file, and then perform string replacement operations on it.
You can save the output with dump
And use the stringr packages str_replace_all(x, "\\s", "") to replace all white space and new lines with empty spaces.

I would guess that @RuReady means when you copy out of the terminal and into the editor. When I do this, I get the following in my script editor:

A keyboard shortcut (such as Ctrl + Shift + V, on Windows) would be really cool if I wanted to paste content from the console without the editor auto-indentation. (yeah, I could turn auto indentation off, but I usually want it on. pasting content from dput is about the only case where I don’t want it on)

To get around this, I tend to copy into a text file and then convert the text file to a .R or .Rmd script.

Does turning off the auto-indent in preferences not fix it for you?

It does, but it means changing my settings twice. I do it if I'm inserting something into the middle of an existing script, but if I'm starting a new script, it feels faster to paste it to a text file and then save it as the file type I want. (Whether or not it is actually faster is an open question)

What many editors do is allow for separate 'Paste with Indent' and 'Paste' actions, typically with Ctrl + P for one and Ctrl + Shift + P for the other. Perhaps RStudio should adopt a similar convention?
