Issues with Google Drive for Desktop

I am unable to save files from RStudio to folders in the new Google Drive for Desktop.

I just transitioned from Google Backup to "Google Drive for Desktop".

I am getting multiple error messages when using with RStudio.

Most error messages involve inablity to save or access files.

Messages include:

  • "Error Saving File: Error saving G:/My Drive? ... /script.R: A device
which does not exist was specified"

  • "Save file [file name] The I/O operation has been aborted because of
either a thread exit or an application request."

  • "Error: Evaluation error: zip file '[file name]' cannot be opened."

  • "Error in gzfile(file, "wb") : cannot open the connection. In
addition: Warning message: In gzfile(file, "wb") : cannot open
compressed file '[file name]' probable reason 'Invalid argument'"

  • "Location not available: If the location is on this PC, make sure the
device or drive is connected or the disk is inserted, and then try
again. If the location is on a network, make sure you're connected to
the network or Internet, and then try again. If the location still
can't be found, it might have been moved or deleted."

No other programs have this issue with Google Drive.

RStudio does not have this problem with files on the rest of my computer.

I've spent several hours trying to troubleshoot with both Google and Microsoft technical support, but with no luck. They suggested it could be issue with RStudio.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I don't think RStudio is the main problem, it is known that R has problems with cloud synced folders in general, not just Google Drive.
