keybinding for expand selection not working

I tried to select paragraph using "expand selection" keybinding: Ctrl + Shift + Cursor up/down
but it's not working. Taking into account that I use emacs mode, tried to do the same with the usual emacs keys:
Meta + h but to no avail

Testing some other combinations I discovered that I can select whole paragraph using Ctrl + Shift + up (pressing UP twice) but you MUST be at the begginning of paragraph!!!!

any hint would be awesome

Would be very good to implement most emacs keybindings, at least the most common.
