library(xlsx) bombs 4.2

The command library(xlsx) reliably gives me the "R session aborted" alert. This never used to happen.

I am running Windows 10 and R 4.2 and the latest version of RStudio. I did have a fairly recent Java update installed and am running the most recent version of Java. I did remove the xlsx package and reinstalled it. No difference.

Any advice appreciated.

This seems to be the same problem as here and there.

As indicated in these topics, it should be solved by installing the R patched version available at:
https://cran.r-project.org/bin/windows/base/rpatched.html

Much appreciate the answer. Any idea when the patch will be rolled into the "official" release?

Based on the previous release history, I'd guess a few months.
