Reports To: Director of Evaluation and Analytics

Position Summary: The Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute seeks a collaborative and strategic professional to serve as Assistant Population Health Data Analyst. The Analyst will support the Data Team by helping to maintain the Institute’s datasets, providing basic data management and analytic support, and assisting with reporting and project management. Specifically, the Analyst will be responsible for basic data management and statistical analyses; data abstraction, collection, and entry; executing data requests and reviewing the data received; and providing administrative support to the Data Team through reviews of the published research and ensuring deliverables are prepared on time. Required work location for this position is in the state of Texas. Statewide travel (up to 10%) may be required after Covid restrictions are lifted. Some duties may require access to reliable personal transportation.

Responsibilities:

Data Management and Analyses:

  • Conduct basic data management, exploration, and statistical analysis operations in R.
  • Draft text summaries and data visualizations for results of statistical analyses.
  • Support the Data Team in the management and maintenance of the Institute’s health care and prevalence datasets.

Data Collection/Abstraction:

  • Coordinate and prepare data-related deliverables, including presentations, grant proposals, and reports.
  • Manage data abstraction, data collection, and conduct participant interviews (remote and / or in – person) for projects requiring primary data collection.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders and local / state / federal agencies to ensure that data requests are fulfilled.

Administrative Support:

  • Identify research studies and other literature as needed to inform the Data Team’s work.
  • Edit and review reports for adherence to the Institute’s style guidelines.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field.
  • 1-3 years of direct experience analyzing data using standard statistical software for data management and analysis, such as R, Stata, SAS, and / or Python Pandas.
  • Experience with searching and synthesizing the academic literature.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (particularly, MS PowerPoint and formulas and programming in Excel) and other common business applications (e.g., Prezi).
  • Willingness to learn new programs, skills, and applications.
  • Attention to detail and the intellectual curiosity to question data and make informed decisions based upon it.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues. This includes overcoming geographic and other potential barriers to communicating with and making contributions to the team’s work.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Capacity to think strategically, critically, and respond analytically.
  • Flexibility in working with new issues, topics, and approaches.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of direct experience managing and analyzing data using R and / or R Studio.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health services, data and/or policy issues in Texas.
  • Comfort explaining statistical procedures and results to a non-scientific audience.
  • Experience with – or a willingness to learn — databases and SQL.
  • Familiarity with creating data visualizations in software applications (e.g., R or Tableau).
