odbc, rJava and homebrew on M1 mac ARM64

Installing R and Rstudio worked for me when trying to connect to ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server. However, it does not allow rJava to successfully build and I reinstalled R from https://mac.r-project.org/. rJava now works but odbc does not.

Is there a way to install the version from mac.r-project via homebrew?
