package ...... is not available - Why?

Warning in install.packages : package ‘Icyanalysis’ is not available (for R version 3.6.1)

Warning in install.packages : package ‘bbdetection’ is not available (for R version 3.6.1)

Why? These packages are from 2017 and 2018

All packages in CRAN are re-built once in a while to make sure that whatever is there can be installed on most systems. If packages fail to build, then CRAN maintainers try to reach out to authors of the package for them to update it. If they fail to do so - package is removed/archived.

If you have source code for these packages, you can try building them yourself and see if they still can built on your machine specifically. In other words, you can still use them, it's just they won't be available on CRAN.

Hi @berti0815,

This error means that the search for those packages on the indicated repository fails. It often indicates that either the repository or the package are misspecified somehow, not that the package is truly unavailable.

Can you share what code you're running and also the output of options('repos')? I'd also double check that you can install a package that you know runs with this version of R to make sure the network connectivity isn't the issue.

install.packages("bbdetection") Installing package into ‘C:/Users/…..Documents/R/win-library/3.6’ (as ‘lib’ is unspecified) Warning in install.packages : package ‘bbdetection’ is not available (for R version 3.6.1)

options("repos") $repos CRAN "" attr(,"RStudio") [1] TRUE

network connectivity works….

Thanks in advance

From what I can tell, bbdetection is not on CRAN (see list of all CRAN packages here).

The package is referenced in Market Timing with Moving Averages, and seems to be available through the book's website:

R Package "bbdetection"

The "bbdetection" package aims to implement two algorithms of detecting Bull and Bear states in a financial market. The package also contains functions for printing out the dating of the Bull and Bear states of the market, the descriptive statistics of the states, and functions for plotting the results. The current package is build under R version 3.5.2. The package source for all PC can be downloaded here. The binary package for Windows PC can be downloaded here. To use the package, download and install it.This package is supplemented with a package manual and documentation.

You can find different methods of installing a downloaded R package in the StackOverflow thread (among other resources):
