I'm using RStudio Desktop 1.2.5042 on a Windows machine and running R 4.0.0. Every time I start RStudio, R starts up twice. See screen shot. This seems to make things very slow. I've tried re-installing both R and RStudio but this hasn't changed anything. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Have you tried resetting Rstudio's state? I have also experienced weird behavior after the update but after performing the reset everything went back to normal.
I just tried that (resetting both desktop directory and preferences) and R still starts twice just without any of my settings I had saved before.
I think your best shot would be to test the preview version to see if there is already a fix and if the problem persist, file an issue on the github repo
