There was a question on the same issue about 2 years back and seems forgotten after that. I think this column resize (or at least wrap text if text is long) feature is still needed in the table viewer of rstudio. Or has it been developed?

This change makes it possible to resize columns in the data viewer by clicking a… nd dragging borders between cells in the data grid. It also adds `title` elements to cells in the viewer, so that it is possible to read strings too long to fit in the grid by hovering over the cell.
Ordinarily, the data viewer sizes columns adaptively to the data, to the extent that scrolling through a large data set can cause column widths to change to reflect the currently loaded data. However, once a column is sized manually, it is presumed that it should remain at that size regardless of the data in the grid. Consequently, resizing a column causes the viewer to (transparently) enter a manual size mode in which column sizes are fixed.
Did you try to resize columns in your Rstudio IDE ? Which version do you have ?
