RStudio 1.4.1106 freezes on macOS

I am having trouble updating my RStudio 1.2.5042 instalation. I want to use the most recent RStudio version (which is 1.4.1106 as I write this topic), but everytime I update the software it freezes. In fact, the cursor in the console blinks and I can type in it, but as soon as I open an R script, new or old, the IDE stop working freezes. The cursor in the console keeps blinking, but I cannot type in it or in my script.

So far I've tried the following:

  • uninstalled and installed RStudio

  • removed both ~/.rstudio-desktop and ~/.local/share/rstudio folders

  • restarted the computer

Nothing works. I am using R 4.0.5 on a macOS 11.3.1.

I searched the forum and StackOverflow, but I couldn't find anything to help me. What can I do?

For some reason I do not know, RStudio Preview version 1.4.1714 along with R 4.1 are working fine ¯\ _ (ツ)_/¯

The "some reason" may be related to the new graphics engine - have a look at this
