RStudio and Mosaic VPN

RStudio won't start when the VPN is running. I'd appreciate help to fix this problem.

Error Information:

RStudio won't start when the VPN is running. I get the following message:

Cannot Connect to R
RStudio can't establish a connection to R.
I'd appreciate help to fix this problem.

Attempted steps taken to fix -

System Information:

  • RStudio Edition: Desktop
  • RStudio Version: 1.4.1717
  • OS Version: Windows 10
  • R Version: 4.1

RStudio connects via HTTP to a local TCP port to a process called rsession. Very likely your VPN software is blocking that connection for security reasons; check it and add exclusions for the RStudio.exe and rsession.exe programs (you'll find both in the Program Files directory RStudio creates when it's installed).
