I will start by saying I am a complete beginner to R. So I was working on Rmd file and then all of a sudden R froze and was completely unresponsive. I force quitted it using task monitor (on mac using Sierra version 10.12.6) which did close Rstudio. But when I opened it up again the file was still there and I cannot seem to close the file or open a new file or do anything. Rstudio is completely unresponsive
Hard to say without specifics, but in my own experience, the most common thing that can hang up a Rmd file is if you have a chunk that prints a really huge data frame. That creates a ton of data to render in the html.
