RStudio/Git push to protected master branch

Description of issue -
We are currently using RStudio/Git to push code to a repository on Github. The master branch of our repository is protected by our Github administrator, but somehow RStudio/Git still allows us to push to master (without applying any forced push). Any insight into what might be happening would be really appreciated.
