I use RStudio Server to teach some large undergraduate classes. I would like to untick the RStudio preference related to restoring .RData, because restoring the environment allows students to get themselves stuck sometimes. I know that this is a command line option when invoking R; I haven't been able to find any reference to an environment variable (for R or RStudio Server that would set this behavior).
Fallback option is always have the students do it individually when we first start things up for them. However, based on past experience, many won't follow the directions ...
Any suggestions welcome.
