Sluggish R studio on Windows 10

Hi,
I've been using R for less than a year and since a few days ago I started experiencing an annoying problem. R studio is not reactive anymore and it takes up to seconds to open code sections and to move from one script to another one or to scroll the scripts. Running the code is very fast, is just the user interface that is very slow.

I Use RStudio 2021.09.0 Build 351

My script is only 5000 lines long with around 20-30 sections and I've around 50 data frames loaded, but nothing huge...In total R is using less than 1GB of RAM while I have around 20GB free.

I've a brand new Dell XPS with Windows 10, Intel-i7 and INVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060. Files are on the internal SSD. I'm a bit surprised about this low reactiveness.

I've searched a lot and looked in other discussions but I can't find a solution, can anyone help me?

Same issue here.

Both my old XPS 15 and brand new XPS 17 do this. Humor me: have you tried running RStudio 'Run as administrator' (right mouse click on the .exe in your 'Program Files/Rstudio/bin/rstudio.exe')?

So this is a specific problem of XPS maybe?

I 'm really annoyed that I can easily handle 4k videos and 3d graphics, but a simple text file makes R studio goes jerky.

As an update of the problem I found that there is a kind of threshold in the lenght of the script and/or the number of sections I made. After 3-4000 lines or 20-30 sections, it becomes to slow down, and if I go on, it will eventually became almost unusable.

No worries. It was driving me absolutely nuts! Hopefully this fixes it for you - maybe some Dell bloatware is to blame - others have complained about security software interacting with RStudio to make the UI sluggish.

Okay I managed to work out why this was successful for me.

It relates to Options>Git/SVN>Enable version control interface for RStudio projects

Try disabling this and for whatever reason I don't have to run in Admin mode to avoid the sluggish RStudio behavior.

Thank you very much Tom. This workaround helped a lot but it didn't solve completely the problem. R studio is much more responsive when I'm working on the code, but when I collapse/expand sections or move around collapsed sections it is still very sluggish.

I've found that we are not the only ones and also other DELL XPS owners experience this problem.

I will try with your new method and I'll let you know.
