terra package fails to install

I am trying to extract WorldClim data using the raster function but it says that there is no package called 'terra' installed. I tried installing terra by itself but I am getting this error:

Please show me what I'm doing wrong.

You are trying to install from source which requires compilation, for compiling packages from source on MacOS systems you need to install Xcode (in your system not in R) and the recommended development tools for macOS.
https://mac.r-project.org/tools/

Also, you are missing another system dependencies for this package, the GDAL system library, I'm not a macOS user but I think you can install it using Homebrew with these commands

brew install gdal --HEAD
brew install gdal

As a follow up to what @andresrcs has added:

Step 1. In a terminal, install just the minimum xcode command line tools required by typing:
sudo xcode-select --install

Step 2. Install required libraries via homebrew (in a terminal):
brew install gdal proj

Step 3. I've found it easier to specify the arguments for where the required dependencies are located if you've installed gdal and proj via homebrew:

remotes::install_github("rspatial/terra", configure.args = "--with-gdal-config=/opt/homebrew/bin/gdal-config --with-proj-include=/opt/homebrew/opt/proj/include --with-proj-lib=/opt/homebrew/opt/proj/lib --with-proj-share=/opt/homebrew/opt/proj/share/proj", type = "source", force = TRUE)

NOTE: This configuration works for the homebrew installation on M1 macs and MacOS Monterey. The filepaths will differ for intel-based machines.
