Is Windows 8.1 a 32-bit system? I think you need an older version of RStudio,
Windows 8.1 can be either 32-bit or 64-bit. I have the same question for Windows 8.1 on a 64-bit system.
If it is 64-bit, In theory you should be able to install the latest RStudio version, provided that you have all system updates up to date. Do you get any error message?
