I added r-bloggers feed to my RSS reader and read whatever seemed relevant and approachable for about 6 months. They collate a lot of posts on there so I have now switched to adding the specific RSS feeds that I found most interesting/useful (like R Studio and R Revolutions). It all exposed me to lots of new things and ideas for that initial learning period.

The best resources that I have found so far are:

the R For Data Science book by Hadley and Garrett
and of course Stack Overflow is always a lifesaver.
However: in my experience the best way is to go ahead and try R! Some resources, examples, books, reprex will suit you/your question better. A wide range of resources, explanations and people will always help.
As R Studio Community grows, I'm sure it will become a great site for R tips for beginners too. Take a look at this thread for example.
Wow thank you all for all of the suggestions! I am also rather new with R and one thing I have learned is that this community seems to be tops in offering help and aid to other users - with a smile
