white space around plot

I have the same issues as this post, which was never answered:

gganimate has problem of white space in plot area

The ggnimate produces quite large amount of white space in its right and bottom side area. see pic, I need to know how to get big gifs and a desired dimension to fill the plot area. I am pasting my code as well. Does anyone know why this is happening? I have created and exported 100's of plots without this issue. I get the same issue when using ggplot or just using the r base graphics so i dont think its an error with my code. could it be a background setting in r? i have tried playing around with theme(plot.margin) and it doesnt affect anything.

The plot on the left is what it looks like in Rstudio. The plot on the right is what the exported metafile looks like in paint. You can see all the excessive white space around the green plot. Usually the entire green area extends to the entire white area in paint. Its an issue because if i copy/paste the file into a word doc, the white space comes with it.
