xlsx package will not work

how do i load the xlsx package correctly to r
I am getting this message:

library library(xlsx)
The operation couldn’t be completed. Unable to locate a Java Runtime.
Please visit http://www.java.com for information on installing Java.

Error: package or namespace load failed for ‘xlsx’:
.onLoad failed in loadNamespace() for 'rJava', details:

error: JVM could not be found
In addition: Warning messages:

Install Java and/or check JAVA_HOME (if in doubt, do NOT set it, it will be detected)

Not sure. I have always used readxl. Perhaps it will work for you?

The error message suggests you don't have Java (Java Development Kit) installed in your system, xlsx requieres Java to work, but as suggested, there are other options that do not depend on Java.

Try readxl in Tidyverse.
