Best practices for saving to shared file?

I have a daily chron job R script which overwrites a CSV file on a shared windows drive at my work. But sometimes someone has the file open so it can't be updated.

What are some good strategies for fixing this?

  • Saving to new file each time, e.g. metrics_2021-06-28.csv
  • Saving to shared file on Teams or google docs
  • [insert smarter things here pls]
