Cannot install package rgdal

When I tried to install the rgdal package, I got the error:

configure: error: gdal-config not found or not executable.
ERROR: configuration failed for package ‘rgdal’

I am using R 3.5.1 on Fedora 27.

Try installing these libraries in your system before installing rgdal

sudo apt install libgdal1-dev libproj-dev

This works in debian-based systems, but doesn't in fedora.

Did you try these?

yum install gdal.x86_64 gdal-devel.x86_64 gdal-libs.x86_64 
yum install proj.x86_64 proj-devel.x86_64 
yum install proj-epsg.x86_64 proj-nad.x86_64

This works! Just a follow up question, I noticed that the package names in debian and fedora are different, how do you match them?

I just googled "Fedora libgdal1-dev libproj-dev"
