I am having exactly the same problem as this closed topic, has anyone found a solution.
Different versions of Rstudio were used and also on MacOS catalina.

Open Terminal and try running this:
$ sudo mv ~/.config/rstudio ~/.config/rstudio-old
Does that address the issue?
Not really,
after run that command, I got this error:
No such file or directory
maybe I'm in the need of creating that .config folder?

Just solved this issue giving permission into the .config directory under my sudo user
