Importing, stacking and processing FAERS (FDA Adverse Event Reporting System) data

Hello everyone,
I am a newby trying to deal with FAERS data (available on ASCII or XML format) and would need to import, stack and finally analyze the dataset on R software.

Can anyone help me?

I have found the following article Analyze Survey Data for Free (asdfree.com)
but I would need someone who can explain me step by step how to do beacuse I am a newby.

I have just dowloaded the .xml file into my hardisk, so I do not need to download them by code.
