Margin around an inserted icon in pdf documents

Is it possible to add a margin when inserting an icon in a pdf document? I'd prefer something that give more control on the spacing than a simple space before and after the icon.

Something similar to the following that would work for pdf:

blah![](icon.pdf){height=16px style="margin: 0 4px"}blah

This can be done with LaTex markup. I’m on a mobile, so can’t demo.
