Hi, I used the ACS journal template that comes with RStudio. But the rendered pdf version puts a blank first reference with the actual first reference starting at position 2 https://quarto-journals.github.io/acs/.
I was able to solve the issue based on this blog post. Following the suggestion there, I downloaded the achemso.tds.zip file from CTAN package site. Then I extracted it and manually copied the achemso.bst file from there and overwrote the achemso.bst file that is installed with the quarto acs extension under the folder _extensions/quarto-journals/acs/. Once I did that, the issue of blank first reference went away.
