R / RStudio Won't Open on Acer Chromebook 315 in Beta Mode

Hi everyone. I've been trying to get this to work for days now. I have a chromebook set to beta mode with Linux Debian 11 running so R and RStudio should be working, it's literally the exact same issue as this older thread:

RStudio won't open on Acer Chromebook 315 runing Linux Beta Debian Version 10. I followed a tutorial of how to download RStudio onto my Chromebook however when reaching the last step got an error message stating it was Super User privilege. I tried typing SU and SU was not recognized. The app shows up in my app shelve on the Chromebook however when I try to launch it just spins for hours. I've tried restarting the device. Can anyone help?

When I check for R in the command line I have R 4.0.4-1 but I can't seem to open it, and I downloaded RStudio for Debian9 (most recent one listed). I have the application shortcut but it just keeps 'loading' on the toolbar and never actually opens.

I'm pretty new to running Linux in general and could really use some help with this.
