RStudio "Cannot Connect to R" error when opening .Rproj from network drive

Error Information:

Description of issue -
I work almost exclusively from remote network drives. Whenever I open an existing .Rproj from the network drive, I get this error screen in RStudio:

And every single time I click the RETRY button, the project loads without further issues.

When I was using RStudio version 1.2.5042, I would occasionally get a similar error message, but since I upgraded to RStudio version 1.3.959, this now happens every time I open an existing .Rproj from a network drive.

Attempted steps taken to fix -
I've confirmed that this only happens when opening .Rproj files from a network drive.

I've tried removing ~/.Rprofile - didn't make a difference.

There haven't been any changes to my firewall or antivirus software since upgrading from RStudio version 1.2.5042 to RStudio version 1.3.959.

Since I think this might just be an issue of the connection between RStudio/the .Rproj file and R timing out, my question is this: is there a way to increase this timeout limit?
