RStudio freezes while running long query

When running a command that takes a long time, for example a SQL query, RStudio seems unable to do other, unrelated things like:

  • open/create a new file
  • save an edited text file
  • change directories in the 'files' pane

These operations seem independent of what the R session is doing, so I'm curious if there's a fix?
