RStudio Slow, Laggy, Unresponsive

I recently purchased a laptop so I can work remotely when I am not in the office. When I use RStudio on my normal desktop it is blazingly fast and when I use it on my laptop it is laggy. For example, scrolling in the console is slow and commands take a while to process. I am using a VPN to connect to my network. I am using version 1.1.456.

Please let me know if there is additional information I can provide to help solve this issue.

Just curious, what are your laptop's specs? How much RAM does the laptop have? My guess is the difference in speed is due to your laptop having significantly less RAM than the desktop, though there could be something more complex going on.

There were some previous reports of VPN-linked slowness, but I’m not sure what the resolution was:

I've been using RStudio quite a while. Recently, I've noticed that when I am logged into my company's VPN (to access secure data), execution of even simple functions with RStudio slows to a crawl. However, loading up base R while on the same VPN connection is as fast as I would expect. Are there some RStudio settings that should be tuned for working over VPN? Or is this a bug?
